AI search content strategy.

An AI search content strategy is a plan of what to publish, and where, so that AI assistants name and cite your brand when buyers ask about your category.

Rendix turns every scan into a publishing plan: the pages to write on your site, the cited sites to get onto, the threads to answer and the fixes that keep pages readable. Each piece comes with a brief, a work order, and a verdict measured after you ship it.

Definition

What is an AI search content strategy?

It starts from what the engines cite today, not from writing tricks. Three findings shape the plan:

Lists and comparisons get cited most

More than a third of the pages the engines cite in Rendix's category rank or compare products.

35.9 % of 14,603 citations went to a page with best, top, vs, alternatives, compare or review in its address.

Citations in the answers to 36 tracked questions, Aug 26 to Oct 7, 2026, sorted by the words in the page address. Gemini returns domains only and is left out. A full bar is 50 %.

Each engine reads different places

Where to publish depends on the engine your buyers use.

16.7 % of AI Overviews' citations went to Reddit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Quora, Medium or Hacker News; Perplexity 0.6 %, ChatGPT 0.1 %.

The same 14,603 citations, by the site in the address. A full bar is 20 %.

Rewriting for the model rarely works

Tuning a page's wording for AI barely moves it. Ranking higher in the search the engine runs does.

3 of 54 cases in C-SEO Bench where a rewriting method raised a page's citation rank by a significant margin.

Ten methods, among them adding statistics, citations or an authoritative tone, tested on four models. Putting the page first in what the model reads gave far greater gains than any of them.

Method

How does Rendix decide what to publish, and where?

Every scan rebuilds the plan from what the engines answered, cited and searched. No model writes it.

  1. Read the latest answers

For every question you track, Rendix reads the latest answer from each engine: the brands it named, the pages it cited and the searches it ran.

  2. One page per search term

Questions that lead to the same search term share one target page, so your own pages never compete. The format follows the term's search intent: a ranked list, a guide, a comparison, a pricing page or an FAQ.

  3. Off your site, where the engines already look

Publications come from the pages the engines cite in your category, independent media first. When the cited page is a rival's own list, the plan names that exact page.

  4. Threads and fixes

Cited Reddit threads go to Community. Findings of the site audit that keep a page from being indexed or read go to Technical.

  5. Rank by points you can check

Priority adds up visible points: how often the answers leave you out, Google search demand, how firmly one brand holds the slot and how well the format fits, minus a penalty for hard terms. Nothing predicts a lift.

  6. A brief and a work order

Each piece gets a brief (title, sections, the searches to cover, the pages cited today, the measurement plan) and numbered steps, each with a check.

Measuring

How do you know a content change worked?

Compare the questions you worked on with the questions you left alone. Citations and mentions move on their own from week to week, so a rise after you publish is not yet a result.

Between two three-week windows in Rendix's category, 6.1 % of the cited pages cleared Trakkr's published before / after bar with no work from Rendix behind them. Some may have been edited by their owners. A before / after window cannot tell that from noise, which is why Trakkr words a fall “Coincided with a drop”.

Rendix ran the same kind of check on its own first rule, one more target question naming the brand than at the start. On runs where nothing was published it still called 26 to 97 % of them earned, so the verdict now tests the targets against untouched questions.

Questions about AI search content

A plan of what to publish, and where, so that AI assistants name and cite your brand.

It starts from what the engines answer today: the brands they name, the pages they cite and the searches they run. Rendix builds the plan from its scans and rebuilds it after every scan.

Be on the pages ChatGPT reads for your category, and publish the page that compares your category honestly.

In Rendix's category 36.4 % of the pages ChatGPT cited were ranked lists or comparisons. A comparative page gets the brand named in 43.3 % of the answers that cite it, an informational one in 18 %. In ChatGPT, a page first in the engine's search results was cited 58 % of the time, against 14 % at position 10.

Rank in Google Search for the question: Google says its AI features have no extra requirements.

Google writes that optimizing for generative AI search is "still SEO". In Rendix's category AI Overviews cited Reddit, YouTube and similar sites in 16.7 % of its citations, far more than ChatGPT (0.1 %) or Perplexity (0.6 %), so threads and videos count more there.

Choose the page types the engines cite and make them rank; rewriting the text for the model rarely helps.

In C-SEO Bench, rewriting methods such as adding statistics or citations raised a page's citation rank significantly in 3 of 54 cases; putting the page first in what the model reads gave far greater gains. Bing's guidelines add: put the essential information near the top and avoid long introductions.

Compare the questions you worked on with the ones you did not touch.

Citations move on their own: between two three-week windows, 6.1 % of the pages cited in Rendix's category cleared a published before / after bar with no work from Rendix behind them. Rendix reads each piece over 42 days against the untouched questions and calls it earned only at the 5 % level.

Source: Rendix scans of its own category · Trakkr docs, Sep 2026

Rendix knows of no study that measured it, so it gives each piece 42 days.

The window is a product choice, in line with the defaults others publish (Trakkr: 42 days for new content, 14 for a technical fix). A piece the engines never answered about in the window ends as couldn't measure and does not count as a loss.

The sections include the searches the engines ran for the question and the tracked questions in their own words. Writing the piece in your voice is in development; the brief copies as Markdown for a writer or an AI tool.
